The story of
the Owl & the Monkey
Once upon a time, deep in the heart of the misty mountain jungles, two little twin girls were playing care free in the grassy lawns of one of the most beautifully restored planters bungalows in the whole of the land. It was cool and misty and the girls were mesmerized by the dew drops that lay scattered on the immaculately cut blades of grass. Holding their little teddies, an Owl and a Monkey, they cantered up and down the lawn excitedly whilst their mummy sat looking out over the distant mountain tea estates, drinking her morning cup of 'Kiri Te'. Daddy sat peacefully admiring the views over the mountains and the far away tea estates scattered through the jungle, it was a blissful moment that set the day up perfectly.
Later, whilst driving back through the ever changing mountainous jungle roads, they decided to stop at a small tea factory perched high on the top of a mountain peak, for a quick tour and maybe some tea tasting with amazing views!
The girls, holding their little Owl & Monkey teddies clung tight to mummy and daddy as they started to climb the rickety old metal stairs of the old tea factory. But half way up something caught their attention and they gasped with excitement... "what's that?" they billowed in their newly found toddler language, "mummy, what's that?". Mummy and daddy looked around trying to find what had caught their attention, but they couldn't see anything more than stairs and tin roofs. The only things that were overwhelming them was the stifling heat, and the utterly gorgeous sweet aroma of fresh green tea leaves drying on the racks above.
The girls quickly pointed to their noises as they tried to remember their words, "mummy, smell?", and they inhaled deeply and let out a rather loud but joyous "Mmmmmm". "That's the smell of fresh tea leaves" mummy taught them as they listened intently wanting to know what was making that amazing smell. "Cuppa Tea" they excitedly proclaimed as they continued to climb the rickety old stairs and capture their very first glimpse of fresh green tea leaves laid out to dry.
And just like that the little jungle twins became mesmerized by the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of Sri Lanka's incredible teas.
